My accomplishment

I consider attending the Scouting orientation course and basic training course for Troop and Kawan leaders as my accomplishment for this week. This event was held at Quezon Elementary School from September 08-10, 2014 and usually starts before 7:30 am. It enables me to know the significant role of being a leader when I experienced being the Patrol leader of my team namely “Hawk”. This made me realized that leadership is a quality which cannot be acquired by any person from the other but it can be acquired by self-determination of a person.  I also learned a lot of things including the brief history of scouting, the ideals of scouting including the scout oath and law, the scout motto, slogan, sign, hand shake, salute, as well as the silent signals for troop formation and the patrol system. Moreover ,I also had my 2 rated demonstration at BCNHS.

My Significant Experience

My significant experience for this week was to be able to deliver my 2 rated demonstration after the seminar. It is also a significant experience for me to attend the Scouting orientation course and basic training course for Troop and Kawan leaders. Since, this seminar enables me to work with different students from the observers and practicumers as well. The last day for me was full of fun since most of s experienced how to do first aid during emergency, measuring places or things without using any instrument, how to use a compass in locating directions, as well as learning the different techniques in making an improvised chariot as well as lashing, and lastly how to conduct ourselves during flag ceremony as well as how to handle the flag correctly. I also consider as a significant experience when I was tasked to be the patrol leader of my team.

My Insights

This training made me realized the major causes of failure in leadership based from what I experienced during this seminar as a patrol leader.  First, in ability to organize details-a good leader is supposed to be a person with immerse power of organizing things in much better way than his followers. Second, fear of competition from his followers- a leader should never fear that one day his followers might take his position. Lastly, too much self-confidence- a leader should be humble and act as someone respected and trustworthy. Moreover, I also have realized 3 major attributes of leadership, first, infinite courage, self-control, and sympathy.

My problems

The problem that I encountered again this week is time management and how to manage stress. I am hard up in managing my time and preparing my lesson plan and instructional materials the whole night and I have no time to sleep since I need to teach 7:30 am after the seminar. I was so tired that I just went to lie down and sleep.

 My solutions

I solved my problem by means of asking my co-students teachers help me prepare my instructional materials and asked for their ideas regarding about my lesson.  As well as listing my priorities for a particular day so that I will not end up rushing things. Lastly, finding time on how I will be going to manage my stress by means of looking for things that will be my source of encouragement and will serve as my inspiration.

Goals for Next Week

I will immediately approach my CT and ask for a lesson to teach. Since, I know that I do not have enough time given to be able to finish 30 lesson plans with execution until the 24th of October so I need to teach every day.
