"Blessing"

“I am Blessed to be a Blessing”

My accomplishment

I successfully executed 8 lesson plans for this week since I prepare 2 lesson plans for a day as well as different strategy and activities for the 2 sections that I handle. Last Friday, I presented my lesson plan to my supervising instructor for my demo teaching though it needs a lot of revisions and I need to rewrite it.

My significant experience

My significant experience for this week is that I was shocked when I taught grammar and most of my students doesn't know the simple rules and parts of speech in English. I also think of sample sentences on the spot in order to help my students understand the lesson. I even get mad for several times to the 2 sections I handle, since most of them were very noisy. My strategy is that I just stop for minute and wait for them to stop talking fortunately it was effective. I approached my critique teacher immediately and confirm about my observations and she explained it to me that most of them really have the hard time in understanding grammar as well as literature so I need to go down to their level and prepare simple sentences and give examples related to their real life experiences. I am really confused why they are in the fourth year level and they do not even know how to construct simple sentences. Moreover, I was quite disappointed yet I just took it as a challenge. I was able to teach on the spot for the first time in IV-Valor about Collocations yet I am proud of myself that I was able to deliver the lesson well.

My insights

In teaching we will undergo a lot of tough challenges and as a teacher we need to be unique in our strategies, activities, as well as having a positive attitude in dealing with serious problems encountered unexpectedly. As future teacher, my practicum phase would be my foundation when I am already in the field and whatever happens inside the classroom should be a closed matter. As a student teacher, it is my responsibility to adjust to my students for a more productive learning environment.

 Problems
I am hard up in managing the classroom since some of my students were very noisy during the discussion and prefer to chit-chat with their seatmates without them knowing that I am assessing their performance in my class.

Solutions

I asked advised from my critique teacher and I even observed her in IV- Peace on how she managed the classroom having a non-threatening environment. So, I imitated her strategies fortunately it is effective.

 My goals for next week

My goals for next week are to maintain my good attendance, to teach 5 lessons and to create a more productive learning environment. Moreover, to be successful in my demo teaching which will be rated by my supervising instructor.
